OpenOffice.org Writer is a full-featured word processor with page and text formatting capabilities. Its interface is similar to interfaces for other major word processors, and it includes some features that are usually found only in expensive desktop publishing applications.

This chapter highlights a few key features of Writer. For more information about these features and for complete instructions for using Writer, look at the OpenOffice.org help or any of the sources listed in Section 1.2, “Finding Help and Information About OpenOffice.org”.

Much of the information in this section can also be applied to other OpenOffice.org modules. For example, other modules use styles similarly to how they are used in Writer.

What's New in OpenOffice.org 3.0 Writer?

The new version of OpenOffice.org Writer brings two substantial modifications along. A smooth way of zooming and a new kind of presenting notes. These features make handling documents easier. In contrast to earlier versions of OpenOffice.org the notice tags are now placed right beside the document. Notes by different authors are distinguished by different colors.

Downright there is a slide bar to zoom in and out of the document. When zooming out you are able to overview multiple sites of your document. It looks like a preview of the document but you are still editing.
